An author has fun (again)
By JPS
Just like in the Red Knight, the first volume, reading this one gives the impression that the author essentially has fun writing a piece that takes place in a fantasy world that borrows from European 14th century. It also makes "the Albin" into some kind of cross between Britain and North America, with the North West part of the continent full of monsters (Trolls and Giants, in particular, but no dragons in this episode, except "in disguise") but also elf-like creatures and various types of Indians (with some suggestive tribe names and place names such as the Abenakis or Ticondanga for Fort Ticonderoga).

The eastern part of the continent is called "Morea" and is the seat of a fictional and much reduced Empire modelled on the Fourteenth Century Byzantine Empire, with the capital city called Livianopolis (instead of Contantinopolis) and the second largest city called "Lonica" (instead of Thessalonika). Also very much present are the "Etruscan" merchants, with their respective city-states and colonies inspired from Venice, Genoa and Pisa. The southern part are the lands of Jarsay (would this be inspired from Jersey by any chance?) and Occitan (Languedoc?) while south of the North Cross Ocean lie the lands of Galle, Iberia and, to the south west, Ifrikiya.

At least some of the main characters seem to be loosely inspired from historical figures, although several of the historical figures are often blended together to make up one of the book's characters. For instance, the Imperial Princess Irene seems to be a cross between the Byzantine empress of the same name and the Princess Anna Komnene, although she appears both younger and much less ruthless that the two historical characters. The King of Galle (France) somewhat reminded me of a petulant and younger version of the French King Louis XI. The Red Knight himself reminded me of a rather youthful and sympathetic cross between John Hawkwood, the English mercenary to made a career for himself in Italy and Roger de Flor (whose real name was Rutger von Blum), a rather infamous ex-Templar sergeant and leader of the Catalan Company of mercenaries. He and his men did serve the Byzantine Emperor Andronikos II for a few years at the beginning of the 14th century before being murdered by his employer.
Then there is the story itself, which I will not discuss and let you discover. As in the previous volume, you can expect plenty of physical and magical fights, including a few battles. There are however a number of differences with this book.

First, there are many more stories being told in bits and pieces and in parallel, sometimes more than half a dozen, with events taking place in Morea, Galle, at sea, in the Albin Kingdom (whether at Court, in the South or in the North) and in "the Wild". Depending on preferences, some will like this and find that the device is useful in showing the events taking place simultaneously and in creating some additional suspense, a bit like R.R. Martin has tended to go in his Game of Thrones, while others might find that it complicates the story and spoils the flow.

While I tend to incline towards the former, and very much liked the book, I must also admit that the plot itself was not exactly a surprise, although the story remained rather exciting and I leafed through the whole 600 pages in a couple of days. Note, however, that despite the device of having multiple stories unfolding within each chapter, the real action takes place in Morea with the Red Knight and his Company. Despite some desultory warfare in the North, and the increasing trouble raised by the Galle knights and their insufferable leader at the Albin Court, I could not help feeling that these were all sideshows and "holding actions".

Second, there are the military elements: the respective armies, their equipment and the battles. The Morean forces, irrespective of which side they are fighting on, are a collection of units mixing up regiments and forces that really existed between the 11th (for instance the Scholae) and the 12th and 13th century (for instance the Vardariots and the Latinikon), even if some names have sometimes been modified (the Varangians been perhaps the most obvious example). The Company is a rather typical English force of the mid and second half of the 14th century, with a mix of men-at-arms and squires, on the one hand, and long bowmen on the other hand.

The outcomes of the confrontations between the two types of forces tend to be somewhat predictable and one-sided, however much the author conveys the impression of hard fighting and hotly contested battles, as the long bowmen are shown shooting their opponents to pieces time and again. One exception to this is the merciless contest opposing the simili-Varangians to the mercenary knights serving with the rebels. This is inspired from the battle of Dyrrakhion in 1081 when the Varangians (largely made up of Anglo-Saxon and Anglo-Dane exiles at the time) faced Normano-Lombard heavy cavalry and were largely wiped out after inflicting heavy casualties on their opponents.

Anyway, I started this review by suggesting that the author may have had fun in writing this book, which does not preclude some hard work also. I do not know whether this is true or not, although I hope it is. What I do know for sure, however, is that I had a lot of fun reading it and very much enjoyed it...

Four stars and highly recommended. One thing to note however: it is also recommended to find the first volume before this one.

The fear is palpable and real!
By James Butters
I've read a lot of fantasy and in my mind this series stands apart through its unique mix of gritty realism and smooth refined tactical drama whether it be on the battlefield, within the political spectrum, or the subtle dance of romance it all lends itself to an exciting and enjoyable read. The battle scenes are a personal favourite, it actually feels as if I'm right there in the thick of it, fighting for my comrades, my brothers, my sisters, my honor and my life! The fear mixed with adrenaline is palpable and real. The characters are deep and genuine and l care what happens to each and every one of them. The Captain is a brilliant and troubled soul, an inspirational leader and fearless warrior - "a real loon" as Bad Tom would say! I can't wait for the next installment!!

Your Princess is in this Castle
By H. P.
The Fell Sword is the second book in Miles Cameron’s Traitor Son series. The Fell Sword shows that Cameron’s considerable flair for combat and the minutia of medieval war are paired with a grasp on fantasy at a grand scale. The Fell Sword opens with the Red Knight’s mercenary company, fresh off its costly victory in the first book, traveling to “the Empire” for a contract for the Emperor. (The Empire resembles the Holy Roman Empire at first blush but is probably a better analog to the Byzantine Empire.) Things go sideways before they start, however, when the Emperor is kidnapped shortly before the company arrives. Meanwhile Thorn weaves new plots, the Wild roils, the Galles scheme, and the north of Albin recovers.

Of course, more battles, although they don’t live up to those of the first book. Neither the fell sword nor the princess play a prominent role, but that’s ok. Once again, POVs are shared by host of characters, both new and old. Almost twenty different characters grace the chapter headings alone. Locations include familiar ones like Harndon, Albinkirk, and the Wild, as well as new ones such as Liviapolis (capital of the Empire), the capital of Galle, and Ticondaga (the seat of the Red Knight’s father). Book 2 is a story of men, but that doesn’t stop of from exploring the Wild far to the west and to the north. We see the dams of giant beavers, the source of the famous Wild honey, an irk king, giants, and much more of the Native American-esque Sossag (as well as the Huron tribes).

We also learn more about the mysterious force behind the events of the first book. From that I can think we can draw a broad sketch of where the story is pointed for the final three books. Along those lines, we learn that some characters who seemed relevant only for color in The Red Knight a now shown, or hinted, to hold more important roles in the story (Peter the slave-turned-Sossag most obviously, I think). Unfortunately, there are several plots which are neither brought to any sort of climax nor given reasonable signals as to where they might go. I’m sure they’re important, but it detracts from the book nonetheless and is the main factor in a lower rating than for The Red Knight.

Disclosure: I received a complimentary e-copy of The Fell Sword through NetGalley.

I now have more confidence to prescribe bowel nosodes
By Ricky
I wanted this book because personally have got to a point in my career where I seem to be getting rather complex cases and I am looking to the bowel nosodes to help me and my patients out!! This and the companion repertory book are therefore a godsend.

The aim of this book has been to bring the bowel nosodes use to a wider audience than the author has been able to do with just teaching. The information in these books contain not only historical use but also his own and others clinical practice notes. He writes about 9 bowel nosdes: Bacillus No. 7, Bacillus No 10, Colibactillinum which includes E.coli and Mutabile as he says that they are virtually indistinguishable, Dysentery Co., Gaertner, Morgan Gaertner, Morgan Pure, Proteus and Sycotic Co.

After the usual MM section on Proteus is a full account of a proving the British School of Homeopathy carried out in 2003 which Bickley supervised. It was a very interesting read and most illuminating especially for the female side of the remedy. All the dreams of the 11 provers are included.

Overall I loved this MM and it has definitely given me the confidence to try out bowel nosodes with my patients more frequently.

High ROI Content
By Steve
Well worth the money. I learned/relearned what would have taken 20 articles online to learn. Including search time and read time - 5 minute search time per article * 20 articles + 2.5 minutes per 2K word article * 20 articles = 100 minutes + 50 minutes = 2.5 hours of time saved with 30 hour read. I 4X'd the money value of my time. Awesome content - Well structured - Easy to read. I can put it to work immediately.

High value. Easy to read. True content, no sales pitch.
By George Kao
I've been a business coach for 7-years full time, have served hundreds of clients, and have learned (and taught) a lot of online marketing.

This is one of the more enjoyable marketing books I've read. It's written in plain language. The chapters are short. The advice is easy to grasp, and based on my experience, solid.

A lot of these types of books are a sales-pitch in disguise. This one is not. The author doesn't even share his website links, though does offer his email address. I feel like the author actually cares about the reader's success and has the experience to back it up.

Happy to have discovered this little gem of a book through Amazon.

CHAPTER ONE

I was sinking.

That's how it is when you're all alone and there's been a global apocalypse and you're just hoping your dad is going to show up like he said he would but there's no sign of him so what exactly are you going to do if your dad doesn't come and every day you try hard not to think about that because...

Everything's going to be OK

is what you have to keep telling yourself but some part of you or maybe it's all of you thinks it isn't going to be OK so you try not to think at all but you can't stop thinking because pretty much everyone is dead and you've got nowhere to go and no one to go anywhere with and anyway who wants to go anywhere when THE SKY IS RAINING DEATH?

Yes, in an apocalypse-type situation, it's very easy to think bad things. In fact, there's SO much time for thinking, it's really easy to slide way beyond even regular apocalypse-type thinking into TOTAL COMPLETE AND UTTER DOOM THINKING...because there's about a million days when you're stuck inside because it's raining killer rain or it looks like it's going to rain killer rain or you just can't face another day in the library.

Yup, that's how bad things got: I broke into Dartbridge Public Library. Studying up on clouds (I know twenty-four different types!) didn't seem like it was going to be enough to get me through this thing. (Through it and into what? That was a whole other question, one best not asked.) My specialist areas of study were:

1. The self-help section. Oddly, there didn't seem to be that much on feeling a bit gloomy because human life on Earth as we know it has been wiped out-but you could tell people meant well. Ruby usefulness rating: 4/10.

2. Microbiology for people who quit biology at the end of eighth grade, weren't really all that interested in science, and weren't any good at it anyway. It's baffling and creepy. Ruby rating: 1/10.

3. Car maintenance for people who would have dropped that too if they'd tried to teach it to us in school (which they should have done). I would not have chosen to study this, but something happened. I'll explain later. Ruby rating: 10/10.

4. Survival manuals. Frankly, I could have learned most of this stuff when I was in Girl Scouts, but I tended to opt for the cake-making side of things (the benefits seemed more obvious at the time). However, not even the SAS (the Special Air Service = very, very good-at-surviving-stuff British Army crack force), who have handy tips on surviving a nuclear bomb going off right next to you, seem to have been able to have imagined this particular kind of disaster. Or maybe they did, but when people saw the chapter on how the army would abandon anyone they had no use for and we'd all be left to fend for ourselves, they complained that it was an outrage and a lie and the SAS were forced to take it out. (Even though it was TRUE.) Nevertheless, Ruby rating: 7/10 (because you never know).

5. Oh, and...one particularly sad and lonely day, I had a quick look at cellular telecommunications. There are no phones and no Internet anymore, so I was just curious, I suppose, about how difficult it'd be to build and run a thing like that. (Quite difficult, I think. Judging from the diagrams.) Ruby rating: 0/10.

My cell phone is at the top of a list of all the things there'll be no more of (currently 402 items long with the recent shock addition of chocolate spread; I was scooping the last fingerful out from under the rim of a jar when I realized supplies will eventually run out).

There are no people on this list. Their names, the names of the dead, are written on my heart. My small, sad, human heart. Hurt so bad it will never cry again.

Don't get me wrong. I cry. I cry plenty. I howl! But my heart? It is all cried out. It is silent.

I don't do pets anymore either. Apart from the risk that a single sloppy lick from a puddle drinker could kill you, they're nothing but heartbreak and trouble...and they're ganging up. There are probably small, mean teams of guinea pigs and rabbits, but the dogs are certainly hanging out together-I've seen packs of them roaming-and I've even seen loose affiliations of cats. Not Ruby, though-that's Mrs. Wallis's Siamese; she doesn't affiliate herself with anyone. She's still hanging around in a strictly unaffiliated sort of way, and she seems to be doing OK, though I sincerely hope her well-fed appearance has got nothing to do with the disappearance of Mrs. Wallis's shih tzu Mimi (last seen absconding from a car in the school parking lot and running in the direction of home), or indeed with the disappearance of Mrs. Wallis herself.

There is a shorter list of things I'm glad there'll be no more of, currently twelve items long. Exams come top, which I never would-"come top of the class," geddit?-so that's why they are numero uno. This list is a lot harder to think of stuff for, so it's brilliant when I do come up with something. The last time I thought of something-"No one can stop me from drinking whatever I like whenever I like!"-I drank to celebrate. I hit my mom's gin.

I remember standing, swaying, at the open front door, watching the rain pour down. I think I was talking to it. I wouldn't have been saying nice things.

When I woke up the next morning, alive, I crossed the drink thing off the list.

The thing about going a little crazy is it's hard to realize that's what's happening.

I stopped going to the library. (What do the SAS know? They're buffoons!) I stopped doing anything much, other than things I absolutely had to do-and even my grip on those got a bit shaky. I'd get up and think, I must clean my teeth...and it'd be bedtime before I got around to it-although bedtime itself got a little flexible. Sometimes it happened in the middle of the day; sometimes it happened all day. And sometimes, when it was supposed to be bedtime, because it was the middle of the night, it didn't happen at all.

One such night, I shaved my hair off. All of it. It seemed easier to do that than wash it. Easier, even, than trying to find a can of dry shampoo with anything left in it-when in any case, just like chocolate spread, supplies will run out eventually, so why not face facts? That's what I imagine I was thinking...when really I don't remember thinking anything much, just picking up my (looted) battery-powered lady shaver...and watching grubby clump-lettes of (dyed) black hair fall.

It should have been the head shaving that alerted me to how serious my situation was. Bit of a clue there. But all I ended up doing was adding the result to one of my other lists: the list of stupid things I've done.

That one's not written down either; it's just burned on my brain. It hurts.

My shaved head looked like a small, fuzzy globe, a planet...inside which strange things happened. Below the spiky surface, dark, wordless thoughts massed, rose, and sunk. Popped up again, doing the backstroke. Giggling. Or hidden deep in the goo of my mind, screaming messages that bubbled up, garbled.

All day, every day, all night, every night, my head simmered with nonsense. Sometimes it boiled. Until finally, there didn't seem to be anything very much left inside my head at all. Boiled dry, I guess. I don't think the thoughts had words anymore. First off, even the sensible, normal ones got texty: "I must clean my teeth" became "clean teeth." Then it was just "teeth." Then, when the words had pretty much stopped altogether, it was probably just "."

I was lost on Planet Ruby, where weeks and days and hours and minutes and seconds (there were some very long seconds) got muddled-and dreams and reality got muddled too. And nightmares, but they were pretty much only about as awful as what was real.

And it might have all gone on and on like that until I really did walk out in the rain (then it would stop), but finally SOMETHING HAPPENED TO ALERT ME TO HOW SERIOUS MY SITUATION WAS...

I crashed a Ferrari. Totaled it.

I was flooring it, coming around a bend (up on Dartmoor, I was about to realize), when I hit a patch of mist, part of which turned out not to be mist but a sheep, so I swerved and-

SCREECH!

KA-BLAM!

BOUFF!

The airbag thing smashed into my face. Only somehow my own hands had gotten involved.

OK, I know how. I like to do this fancy cross-hands thing when I'm turning corners. So, yeah, my own arms got biffed into my face by the airbag.

I sat there. Punched face screaming. Dazed-double dazed, because you want to know a terrible thing? I wasn't even sure about how I'd gotten there. I mean, I must have thought I should get out of the house for a bit-to go on an I-need-something-to-drink mission, most probably. (Supplies always seemed to be running low, but that was probably because time was running weird: one minute I'd have plenty of cola or whatever, and the next minute I'd be draining dregs and panicking.) But since I often thought I should do something and didn't do it or thought something had happened when it hadn't actually happened, I was seriously shocked to realize that this crash thing, apparently, had really happened. Though I only knew it for sure because IT HURT. OWWW. ARRRGH. OWWWWW.

WAKE UP, RUBY! WAKE UP!

The car was wrecked; I didn't even have to try to start it again-which I did-to know that. It had made out with a wall. They didn't like each other. Not one bit.

I got out of the car. My eyes were already stinging like something nasty had been flung into them. I put my hand up to my bashed nose and felt blood. I looked at the blood on my fingertips; then I squinted at the thing that would like to eat that blood.

Mist's a funny old thing, isn't it? Basically, it's just a cloud that's hit rock bottom. A cloud (stratus nebulosus, doncha know) that can no longer be bothered to get up into the sky. It drags its sorry self along the ground. Funny? It's hilarious, really: Is it going to kill you, or isn't it? How much of it-exactly-would have to settle on your skin before...

I could see that mist swirling and swelling toward me. I should have gotten back into the car and waited it out...but I have an emotional issue about being trapped in a car-particularly, in this case, one that had just SMASHED into a wall; probably anyone left alive in Devon would have heard that crash. Some scary someone-anyone could have been on their way to investigate. So-add this to the list of stupid things!-I didn't wait. I ran.

All I could think was: it was coming after me. But I could outrun it.

I bolted across the moor. I scrambled up-up-up. Up rocks. Up-up-up. Up-up-up. Stupid-stupid-stupid Ruby. Up-up-up.

Until there was no more up.

I knew I was at the top of Hay Tor not because I'm, like, really keen on long, rambling walks in scenic landscapes, but because there was no place higher to go; anyone who lives in Dartbridge knows this place because you can see it for miles around-when it's clear.

I stood on the rocks, where there was no place up-no place, no other or farther or higher place-watching the mist rise around me, puffing itself up like it was just remembering it could be a cloud that could get on up into that sky and rain.

I wiped at my throbbing nose, saw blood on the back of my hand. What if it could smell it? What if all those little wiggly-legged bacterium ET microblobs could smell my blood? What if they were all now paddling away like mad, waving their little tentacles, letting out little microsqueals of joy at the scent of breakfast?

I didn't know how that would be, having that thing, that disgusting little blood-gobbling, world-murdering thing get me slowly.

Bad? Very bad? Unimaginably, excruciatingly bad?

And lonely.

I was going to die alone on Hay Tor. My body would be pecked at by crows, nibbled on by sheep bored of grass. Foxes would come and have a good old chew on my bones-maybe drag a few back to the den for the cubs. Someone someday would put my rain-eaten, worm-licked, weather-worn skull on top of the highest stone, and Hay Tor would get a whole new name: Stupid Dead Girl Hill.

I stood. I roared.

No, that's just what I'd like to say I did.

I lost it.

I stood and I whimpered, and in the mist in front of me through stinging, weeping eyes, I saw the shadow of a someone-anyone. Fear crackled through me.

No one moved.

And they'd die if they stayed there, swallowed by the mist-and I felt my arms waving and I heard my own wrecked voice shouting, "COME ON!"

And the shadow-being waved back. She waved back.

And I saw she was me and wasn't real at all.

And I sat down on the rocks, weeping.

And the shadow girl sat too...and melted. She went away. Almost as quickly as she had appeared, she disappeared.

I knew what she was. I'd seen her in the cloud book. A rare thing-called a "brocken specter," when you see your own shadow in a cloud. Enough to spook anyone out. More than enough to spook me.

The mist went with her-the shadow ghost of me-burning off in the sun, until I was just a stupid girl with a punched face, sitting alone on Hay Tor.

Wake up, Ruby Morris.

A Wonderful Conclusion To The Series..
By Aisha
This is a wonderful conclusion to this series, I loved it. Once again we are back in the world of Ruby and it has expanded a bit, Ruby has set out on a journey and as the only survivor in her town she's not taking being alone really well. After the events of book 1 (see review here), Ruby is back home and trying to come to terms with the changes in her life. The world has changed, things that were once oh so important aren't now and she's gotta focus on her survival. Ruby is struggling with a burden she has never had to deal with before; before the rains came she had none of the responsibility she has now and she's not sure how to handle it all.

I loved the realism of her breakdown from spoiled teenager to survivor. It was both heart wrenching and gratifying to see her work on the things that mattered, while trying to stay sane. We wonder all the time how long will the veneer of civility last and as we read Ruby's accounting we begin to understand that it might not last long at all.

This story goes beyond Ruby though and we begin to see what is happening to other survivors, see how others are coping. And man does the action keep coming, the scary moments keep piling up and you know that something is going to break.

My sister and I talked about the fact that in the Hunger Games how clear the PTSD was (not so much the movies but definitely in the books) I was glad to see some acknowledgement that these events change the ones who live and eventually sheer brutality will allow only the strong to survive. Even though Ruby is facing some scary times, she still tries to embrace being a teen, she tries to learn all she can that will help her survive and in the end she accidentally discovers something about herself and about a few others. I really felt for Ruby in the beginning when we realized how far down the rabbit hole she had traveled, seeing from someone else's eyes how bad it's gotten is what wakes many people up and that's totally what makes Ruby realize something has to change.

We see how the world is doing and dealing and how the governments and the military is reacting to the cataclysmic events (not well as you can imagine). As the story progresses and Ruby gets one of her greatest wishes and we are given a chance to see how those left behind are doing, we run back into the court of crazy kids from her journey into London last time and meet some new big bad. I loved that the story didn't really let up, that there was so much going on, but we only got to see what Ruby could see. And because Ruby isn't the smartest person in the room, we weren't' getting the full scope because as a teen, even now, Ruby tunes out on authority figures quite a bit.

As we watch the story unfold you can't help but shake your head at the share audacity of some and realize that sadly this is probably going to be the reaction of many. I enjoyed seeing all the characters from before, watching Ruby try not to forget that she was higher on the social hierarchy in school so she shouldn't' even be talking to the Spratt, but he totally still has her phone and she wants it back!! I loved seeing the new characters, and their interactions with Ruby.

And this book still pulled no punches Ruby gains and losses so much in this novel. She has some serious moments where I wanted to shake and scream at her, and man in the end when it all starts to go down I just wanted to hold her and rock with her. I felt Ruby's reactions were so genuine and I felt her heartbreak when she began to accept and understand some of the things her mother used to say, things that as a kid she never took seriously. Loss was her friend from the beginning as it was for so many and yet Ruby still fought on. I wanted to punch all the villains while at the same time as an adult looking at the circumstances I totally understand their need for answers, but certainly not the greed.

I loved this book and was happy with the conclusion because seriously that ending was too funny and sweet. It would be nice for a little novella telling us how humanity is doing, but I liked the way it was ended just fine.

I loved the quirkiness of the writing, the author's attempt at not using curse words but letting us know that in reality curse words would be flying right about now, was so much fun, I enjoyed trying to figure out which curse would go with the situation at hand. Ruby's voice was so much fun, and so right and so awesome. I really enjoyed seeing it all from her point of view, I might have made some better choices but as she says, she's just a 15 year old girl and she's doing the best she can.

** The Storm was even better than H2O
By Krystianna Straley
**Thank you to Sourcebooks Fire for allowing me to read this in exchange for an honest review!**

The Storm was even better than H2O, and I did not think that was possible. Once again, I was completely horrified and terrified of the rain. However, it was not raining and thundering this time when I read Bergin's novel!

I absolutely loved Darius in this novel. His relationship with Ruby was great. I liked Darius from the second that I met him in the first book, so I loved the moments that involved him. One of my favorite things about this book was that something came to light that I did not see coming. A lot of times, I can kind of feel out where a book is going to go, and that greatly takes some of my enjoyment out of it. Luckily, that was not the case with this book! We found out something pretty cool about Ruby, which I loved.

Ruby's humor also shed through in this book, especially in the beginning. She's in a library and reads tons of books and gives little mini reviews based on their helpfulness, and I was laughing while reading that section! It was also pretty cool that she did research on clouds, which would be pretty darn helpful in a world where rain is killer.

The ending was a bit much because I still have some questions, though at the same time I thought the ending was good. If there's another book to be written in this series in the future, I'd definitely read it. It's definitely a series worth checking out!

Great new voice in YA fiction!
By roxyrolla
Thank you to Sourcebooks Fire for the free review copy in exchange for my honest opinion.

I actually started reading this book, then realized part of the way in that it is a sequel. Woops! Normally I wouldn't request a sequel unless I'd already read the first in the series, so I quickly signed out "The Rain" from my library and read that first. And I quite liked it, enough that I was excited to see what would happen to Ruby Morris in "The Storm".

Ruby is...I wasn't sure I was going to like her, to be honest, but over the course of the two books, she really grew on me. She started off as a shallow, self absorbed, sarcastic and impulsive teen. I could always tell she loved her family, even if she rarely got along with them, and she absolutely adored her group of friends, but once they're all dead due to the rain, she only has herself and her own wits to rely on to keep her alive. Scary!

I really liked how the author was able to show Ruby's growth in this second book. Ruby became a lot more mature and even sensible by having nobody to count on. She found out the hard way not to trust anyone, and it was difficult to watch at times. I can't say a lot about what happens, but if you like a lot of plot twists and turns, then you'll be loving this book!

And Darius? What can I say about Darius Spratt? Not your typical love interest, for sure, but he's got his charms. I ended up falling for him almost as hard as Ruby did!

I'm not positive that this is the end of the series, but I'd be happy to read more books by Virginia Bergin either way. I think she has a distinctive and authentic voice. I would recommend this series to anyone looking for a unique, suspenseful, action-packed dystopian. This is one I think my ten year old daughter would love, although I will make her wait to read it due to the violence and gore!

Fun book! Cute and creative patterns! Easy to follow!
By Medfools.com
Another fabulous book with cute Amigurumi patterns from some really great designers. I already have the first 3 Zoomigurumi books and this one is another great one with nice designs. I love the clean layout of the book and it is really easy to read as well. The patterns are easy to understand with step by step illustration of some of the more complex parts. This book is just great fun to look thru even if you don't make the patterns! So far I have made one pattern and planning to make more! You can't go wrong with this!

Mayes Midwifery
By M. Robinson
This is an excellent textbook for those studying to be midwives. It is well set out with easy to read information about all aspects of midwifery. Although written for English midwives the knowledge it shares is relevant to midwives from around the world (buyer studied midwifery in New Zealand). This is also much cheaper than buying from a university book store.

So you want Magic? Get this book, burn the others.
By Kyle J. Sexton
I had previously one complaint.... was the filler commentary and what seemed like a necessary pre-cursor to those new to the craft, this version seems to do away with that and deliver a solid five star book.....

You'll find hundreds upon hundreds of books from the the major distributors/publishers in the occult and magic...
and if you were to combine 98% of them, it still wouldn't equal the resources this book provides.

We're talking raw information on how to practice the arts. Whether you're novice, crone, fluffy bunny, or just curious... this can open up your eyes to some points of views that you had not seen before.

Once we start getting into the Alchemical Arrays, Gates... mmmmm, that right there is some juicy stuff.

This originally was eighty something dollars and was worth every penny then, now that it's cheaper... there's absolutely no current book in the occult that can act as proper resource in comparison.
There's absolutely no reason not to acquire this book if you're looking for everything you can get from a book on the subject.

The author remains honest to a fault and has obviously put a lot of work into making this, I see no reason why they shouldn't be rewarded for such efforts.

Well Worth It!
By Kevadrin Dolluson
For all those who hunger for more, this book satiates the palate. For the novice, knowing there is more to life than meets the eye, this book provides framework to explore one's own abilities.

This book is well thought out. The author has obviously put many years of effort into this work. It provides its own framework without need for cultural or religious structure. The beauty is that it will work well within the context of established cultural and religious frameworks.

This book was written for both the novice and the experienced magician, and is well worth the read!

Searched and searched I have. And then...I found it!
By Margit Elise
It has been so long since I found such an inspiring book to actually feel challanged. I have been searching for well over a year for a tad more intermediate and advanced book, all of a sudden I stumble over this..Codex of Infernal Arts. Makes me wonder what it is? The title was very mysterious and did reach it's spot of "I'll need this one"

So after I began reading I found a completely different introduction than what I'm used to. Felt like the author was sitting right infront of me telling me rather pointedly "This is how I have written it deal with it." So I read closely into the first 5 chapters the concepts some I knew others I had barely heard of it became a new gateway into some occult ways I had not even bothered to go into before. For one I didn't understand half of the purpose for all the strange names, but then I read what the Infernal Warlock has written, it made sense, straight to the point guidelines.

It became all the more inspiring to read page by page and chapter by chapter. First half of the book is a good introduction for those of you new to the occult and the essentials of magick, it might sound boring but it is worth the time. You will become better after reading it chapter from chapter.

But as the author points out it is up to each reader to find their way to use this book. And possibly incorparate it into their current practices. No matter how much or how little you believe you can do. When you enter the more advanced exercises and yes THERE are exercises optional though recomended. You will get a first get a first hand impression or experience of how this "new" knowledge feels like.

I found out that I would first go at this book from a scholar's view. Be objective and look after some familiar aspects as I went through it. That much worked after the first half of the book was done, but suddenly I was shook non to gently when I was faced with chapters of rituals and magicks I normally would have avoided. Then I was thrown back to being a beginner seeking to understand, I was of course confused at first. Why would I continue reading this? I just couldn't help myself it had been so good so far. So I thought "Alright this is not what I normally do. But I will give it a chance"

Oh how I cringed at some of the new control these rituals gave. I couldn't fully believe it either, it was possible to command these powerful beings? Oh yes those mentioned are powerful in their own right..but to actually have control over them the thought was exciting and a bit frightening to me. I normally have the approach of showing respect to the beings I meet with, that is how I normally do it. But it opened up a new treasure box with a bit of dust on top, I had to sweep away my own dust and dare to open it. In the end it inspired me to write my own set of mysteries.

I do hope you as well will enjoy this treasure trove of a book as much as I did. Do not rush and use the time you need.

Very interesting book. It is all direct quotes, so really proves the point that God was very much on the minds and hearts of those who founded and had influence on America. Bought it for my history teacher son, but I got a second copy for myself.

My liking for this come because it is referenced off of the Bible, being the people that made these quotes either followed Jesus of they greatly respected God. Also, it is saying like these that can get you through the hard time, times of dispair!

Review
According to the authors, the manual is meant to "fill the gap in ECG education" and prepare students and healthcare providers of all levels for the spectrum of routine to challenging ECGs they will encounter in their clinical practice. These worthy objectives are achieved by the authors. The audience includes students and healthcare providers of all levels. Medical and nursing students, physicians in training, nurses and nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and seasoned physicians will find this manual useful. It is of particular relevance to specialists in internal medicine, family medicine, cardiology, anesthesia, and emergency medicine. The book is authored and edited by well-respected teaching physicians from Harvard Medical School. A brief introduction describes ECG findings and electrophysiological pathways of commonly encountered arrhythmias. This is followed by 62 clinical scenarios with an accompanying ECG. These are initially presented with questions regarding diagnosis and treatment. Each case is further explored individually with the correct diagnosis, specific ECG findings to make note of, hints about what to consider in the clinical presentation, physiological explanations, and management recommendations. The format of a question followed by a detailed explanation is especially useful as it allows readers to test previously acquired knowledge and ECG-reading skills. This is a worthy addition to the available ECG interpretation literature. It covers all important aspects of ECG findings in cardiac arrhythmias, while providing appropriate illustrations, in-depth explanations, and management/physiological considerations. It is a very useful educational tool for any practicing clinician or trainee in the essential skill of ECG reading. ---Doody Review by Joaquin Crespo, MD (Ochsner Clinic Foundation)
