It's good. Maybe not really great.

There's a lot of good stuff in here. And it's frankly a daunting topic which runs from Linux admin; thru EE; writing code in Python, Java and Arduino's lanuguage; and network admin.

I guess my biggest complaint is the lack of follow thru (this obviously wasn't edited by O'Reilly).

In several places, he assures us that the example code can be downloaded from the "book's companion website" and yet the URL of that site is unavailable. Nor can this site be found via the wide variety of Google search strings I tried. The publisher does not list it on their web site.

The book has no appendices. One helpful appendix might have listed all the parts required for the various projects. Another might have listed URL's and other contact info for the vendors and blogs listed in the text.

It's a good book. I would recommend it. But it's a bit rough around the edges.

A Useful Book on IoT

The book covers a wide range of useful projects. There are projects for each of the three popular platforms. That is perhaps the main problem of the book. I think it tries to cover too much so the descriptions are not as clear as could be. If you are already somewhat familiar with the IoT devices and programming, then this book would give you a good overview. If you are a do it yourselfer, a more basic book describing one platform like the Arduino, with step-by-step instructions would be more appropriate.
So, provided that you have sufficient technical background, I do recommend this book. The choice of projects are good and practical

There is a lot of content in the book, a good introduction to the Raspberry Pi and Arduino, but the book's "companion website" is a bit of a mystery - the URL for the companion website is either missing, or buried somewhere.

Great adventure that stays with you.

OK, I'm 42, and here's my book report.
I read this book the first time back in about 1968. I can still remember dreaming about holing up in a tree house on a mountain somewhere while a great blizzard decends, the wind howling through the tree limbs. And surviving off the wilderness, trapping deer and fishing, hiding out from grownups. It was a tremendous adventure that has stayed with me through the years.
I recently bought this book for my 8-year old boy, but he's still pouring through the Harry Potter series (again), so I re-read it. It's still tremendous after all these years--the adventure every boy dreams of. It's a story of total independence and making it on your own, and the hero is as brave and resourcefull as I dreamed I would be if it were me on that mountain. The book is as entertaining today as it was back then. I know my boy will love it. It's magic without witchcraft.

My book report

I am 10 years old and have just read this book for my monthlybook report. I am a big fan of this book, My Side Of The Mountain. Theauthor of this book is Jean Craighead George. The main characters ofthe book are Sam Gribley, Frightful , and The Baron Weasel. Sam Gribley is a boy 15 years old who ran away from home to live on the Catskill Mountains. He ran away from home because there were11 poeple in his family, 4 brothers, 4 sisters and 2 adults plus Sam. Frightful is Sam's falcon, he took her from her nest when she was a baby and raised her. He also had a friend named The Baron Weasel who he caught in his trap.
My favorite chapter in the book is when Sam found Frightful a falcon so that he wouldn't get lonely. My second favorite chapter is When The City Comes To Me. And it is when his family comes to visit Sam. His Mom wants him to live in the barn until he is 16 but he doesn't want to.
The chapter that I liked the least was I Cooperate With The Ending. I found this chapter to be sad because I was really interested in the book and I didn't want it to end.
When my Aunt was in grade school she recommended this book to my Dad who was also in grade school. My Dad recommened this book to me and gave it to me for Christmas. When my brother is old enough I will recommended this book to him. The reason why I would recommended it to my brother or anyone is because it is a good book, full of adventure and excitement and I really enjoyed it. This book made me feel like I was in the story as one of the characters.

With a sigh of gratitude, the aging divers have returned to the surface to replenish their aching lungs.

Jeju Island’s haenyeo are a dying breed―perhaps the last of their generation. As their maternal ancestors did for centuries, they have scoured the island’s sea floor, harvesting seaweed, octopuses, sea urchins, turban shells, and abalone. Their numbers have dwindled from 15,000 in the 1970s to approximately 5,600 in recent decades. Driven by economics, these free-divers continue to labor well into their eighties―the hardier ones often plunging 65 feet while holding their breath for two minutes or longer.

Brenda Paik Sunoo gathered these women’s stories while living in their diving villages for a total of seven months between 2007 and 2009.

Moon Tides―Jeju Island Grannies of the Sea is the first book by an American journalist to document the lives of these rare divers through intimate interviews and photographs. Their stories will appeal to those of us desiring a life of purpose―undulating and infinite as the sea.

About the Author
Brenda Paik Sunoo is a third-generation Korean American writer and photojournalist. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology at University of California, Los Angeles, and her Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing degree at Antioch University. Her memoir on loss and healing, "Seaweed and Shamans: Inheriting the Gifts of Grief," has been published in English, Korean, and Vietnamese. She and her husband, Jan, have been living in Hanoi, Vietnam, since 2002. They have one son, David, and a granddaughter, Jolena.

Touching and inspiring women!

The haenyeo of Cheju are really something to witness. When I was on the island I would be fascinated to see their floating devices scattered on the water, knowing that these grandmothers were working under the surface.

I never had the chance to know any of them because of the language and culture difference, but even so I was inspired by them. Now with this book I feel I've had the chance to meet a number of these amazing ladies and to hear their stories. The photos are gorgeous, and the stories really moving.

The author won an international history of women prize for these photos. Totally deserved!

Her stunning photography integrates artwork and story seamlessly and her text is supportive, providing a comprehensive account of these remarkable women's cultural matrix.

The author's timely theme, that of living a purposeful life, is consistently maintained by both photo and text throughout the book.

Her work is a gift to Jeju Island in portraying it so attractively. It is a gift to the world in its theme, and in introducing this relatively unknown island -- and especially, its unique diving women.

A great resource for a new approach to your health

I actually purchased this book to replace the one I borrowed from the library. This book is awesome it has a very unique approach to solving common and severe problems of the body. I especially like the concept of eating for each season and balancing the body's natural temperature through foods and herbs. If your looking for a way to change up your health this is a great resource. The breathing exercises are very helpful also.

John Steinbeck's Literary Heir

Rod Steiger immortalized the complex, conflicted character of the 'The Sergeant' in the 1968 movie of the same name by Dennis Murphy, a California novelist and screenwriter who inherited his friend John Steinbeck's gift for realism and psychology in depicting otherwise ordinary people under extraordinary pressure from their flaws and compulsions and crises of their own making. Murphy was the son of John Murphy, Steinbeck's boyhood pal in Salinas and, as revealed by letters from the older author to the younger writer and his father, in many ways Steinbeck's literary heir. Unfortunately it was an inheritance squandered by success in Hollywood, where Murphy made money in movies despite Steinbeck's caution about the traps waiting for talent, like Murphy's, in Tinseltown. If you liked the movie, a cult classic worth watching for Murphy's taut writing and Steiger's explosive performance, read the novel, an amazing treatment of repressed homosexuality years ahead of its time. Steinbeck quarreled with the ending but praised the effort, to Murphy's deep gratitude. Too bad it remains the only surviving sign of Murphy's prodigious skill as a novelist.

I've become a fan of Teach Yourself VISUALLY (TYV) Series because these books on Kindle and/or Paper can dramatically shorten learning time.

If you are a beginner to Macs, start with the current edition of TYV MacBook. The TYV macOS book will get you going fast. If you've used TYV El Capitan on Kindle or on Paper, your progress on using TYV macOS Sierra will be faster; if you've also used TYV iPhone 6s plus, even faster.

The books in the TYV Series follow the same format -- beautiful color illustrations with clear step-by-step instructions, which make them the most accessible of all technical books I've read. Moreover, the numerous Tips sections enhance understanding well beyond the beginner's level, making this 320-page TYV book an Intermediate-level Guide.

My first TYV book was a loaner from a friend: "MacBookPro: The Fast an Easy Way to Learn, 2nd edition." Doing its step-by-step instructions convinced me to switch to the concise, better organized TYV Series. I bought the 3rd edition of the TYV MacBook. Crystal clear instructions. Subsequently, I bought the TYV manuals for iPhone and the macOS Sierra. I now have three current editions TYV manuals within easy reach.

Earlier, I exclusively used The Missing Manual Series, but the time taken to read those bulky books was long; for example, the 800-paged El Capitan book -- (the unbearable heaviness of being the Missing Manual). I plan to purchase the Missing Manual books and recommend them to all Intermediate/Advanced users.

Just downloaded Sierra to my computer so need a book to help with any changes from my last operating system. Have used this brand book for years with my different Macs. Nice as it gives good instructions, and has the pictures to show the steps. Very helpful for those that are not tech savvy

system! I agree with the author's philosophy of learning through primarily visual means! As a former Science Educator, that was the philosophy that I

This Author has great products and this book has a lot of great information. You can find his products at sephora and ask for samples to try for yourself at home. This is a great skin care book.

Cheap yet works perfectly. delivery so quickly. great and good experience. I quite enjoy this product. I like to collect kitchen utensils but usually shell out for pots and pans and buy my knives at thrift stores. For the price, this product has been super useful. my company need it ,

This is a great book about skincare. It starts with the basic principles of maintaining healthy skins. The author then discusses option to improve your skin in a minimally invasive manner. Economical skincare can do wonders for you.
