An Inspiration

Destiny Bridge is an amazing account of the life of Frank Worthen (the father of the almost 40-year-old "ex-gay" movement/ Exodus International) and God's deep love and concern for those who struggle with same-sex attraction.
The first half of the book recounts Frank's heart-wrenching childhood, deception from his own pastor, and subsequent 20 years living as a gay man in homosexual relationships. The second half of the book recounts God's intervention on the Golden Gate Bridge and Frank's humble acceptance of Christ's love and forgiveness, which changed the course of his life an the lives of thousands of men and women who have turned from homosexuality to holiness.
The author takes time to share details, which makes reading Destiny Bridge like reading an historic novel. Much more than a novel, however, this true story is filled throughout with examples of God's grace and provision, offering a hope that no work of fiction could produce.
Frank recounts his role in the birth and growth of the "ex-gay" movement, which began in the 70's and continues to this day. His honest description of the movement's successes, failures, and hardships paints a realist picture of the fledging movement, which has strengthened and grown over the last 35 years. Frank's unswerving dedication to the ministry in the US and abroad, the international scope of outreach, the danger and confrontation he and others experienced and overcame is exciting and inspiring.
Finally some of the funniest and most endearing moments in the book are when Frank describes his courtship and marriage to his beloved Anita. The description of their love for each other and their mutual dedication to helping others as they work together in ministry is the "icing" on the very satisfying "cake" of Destiny Bridge.
This book will touch your heart, challenge your assumptions, uplift your spirits, and remind you of how great God's love is for every one of us.

As Jesus said of Nathaniel, Frank Worthen is a man without guile

Frank Worthen is a guileless, gentle, generous, Godly man whose goal is to give his life in submission to God's gentle leading. Toward this goal he has aimed for 80-plus years. This book is his account of that journey.
In Spring of 1974, a small personal ad appeared in Christianity Today offering a "Brother Frank" tape with his testimony up to that point. Buying that tape was my first contact with Frank. My most recent contact was a year ago. I was videographer for his friend Alan Medinger's funeral. Frank was not able to attend. I sent Frank a DVD of the event. Between those two times we only met at annual conferences, both being active in the Exodus movement that Frank helped to found. Add "visionary" to my list of qualities. What Frank said always agreed with how he behaved. Add "integrity" to my list.
All of that could make a boring book if it weren't for the fact that Frank's path to his goal had twists and turns in and out of family heartbreaks, gay relationships, bankruptcy, disloyalty, church splits, and life-threatening adventures. If you're looking for lurid details, skip this account. Frank is always tasteful, even while being ... er ... frank.
Frank avoids a preachy, moralizing tone. The most indisputable truth is lived truth. In this account, we watch Frank mature in Christ-likeness, from "perceived rejection" (275) to strong leadership.
Self-published, this book will never make a splash in the marketplace. But Frank's servant heart has enriched the church universal, and will repay your taking the time to read it.
