A Classic in the Field.. I still consider it the best place to start if one is considering MEDITATION!

Lawrence LeShan and his wife did important research in emotional factors in the causation of cancer. That they made their way to MEDITATION is no surprise.
This book has long been praised and cherished. I must have had over 20 copies and proceeded to give them away to people I thought they would help.
WHY? because Lawrence LeShan writes beautifully and simply and clearly and accessibly.
This is MEDITATION divorced from any alliance to a particular religious faith. MEDITATION quite simply is GOOD FOR YOU... healthwise... and if it helps one along his/her spiritual path all the better...
But this book is more about getting the health benefits & finding a simple PRACTICE that one will keep doing...even if it appears one is getting NOWHERE at first.
For what LeShan is attempting to do.... NO ONE HAS DONE IT BETTER!
One of his quotes I have always remembered: In reference to famous spiritual leaders and mystics... he comments simply... "THEY WERE GOOD PEOPLE TO SHARE THE PLANET WITH"... that's something to think about when we evaluate success & achievement in the long run.

This book helps me

It's not a kind of seeing through the book, but I will tell about my experience. This book helps me, simply helps me. I own this book for I don't know, maybe 10-12 years ago, I copied it from the campus library, then somehow it just laid in a pile of my book in my room, then about a year ago, somehow my life seemed to turn to the wrong direction, all things fell apart, including myself. I sought help, my friends help me, then when I tried to clean my room, I bump into this book. I read. I read the first paragraph, the words that always linger up till now are ; "it's like coming home". I want to come home, it is as if my soul wanders to I don't know...then I start breath counting exercise, little by little, NOT WITHOUT effort, with every single energy, EVERY WILL THAT ARE THERE WITHIN YOU, with ALL of your power, everything seems to be put in order again, everything seems to be in a place again. One by one, I am still in the process, but compared to a year ago, my condition now, like my friends say: 'you are slimmer, you don't look 40, you are prettier, you are more relaxed' (I must confess that slim is not what I am, but somehow when my life started again, it's like un-installing or your old-rambanctious-not-so-useful programs and re-installing new programs that works, so I started to exercise again etc), so I just want to say: this book helps me..I don't have any affiliation with the publisher, with Amazon. I simply just share my experience..hope you can find your home too..shalom

A must-have book for those interested in meditation

As books about meditation go, this one is still - to me - the best and the least confusing. It is not a new book, but covers everything one should know about meditation, short of actually doing it under instruction. It is written simply and clearly, and mercifully devoid of the tone adopted by many authors of books about mediation, yoga, etc., who sound rather like car sales people on Valium.
I would recommend it to anyone interested in meditation.
